Ravens Lose Nick Samac to Panthers, Sign Malik Hamm to Practice Squad

Ravens Make Notable Adjustments to Practice Squad Ahead of Week 3 Clash with Lions

The Baltimore Ravens have made some significant changes to their practice squad on Tuesday, as they gear up to face the Detroit Lions in Week 3. The team has added two new players to their practice squad, including running back Malik Hamm, a Baltimore native who was previously released by the Ravens last week. Hamm’s return to the practice squad is a welcomed move, given his impressive performance during the preseason.

Hamm, a product of Baltimore City College and Lafayette University, initially made the Ravens’ 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie in 2023. Unfortunately, his first two seasons were cut short due to knee injuries, but he showed promise this summer with a strong preseason outing. If called upon, Hamm would provide much-needed depth to the Ravens’ secondary, particularly with veteran Kyle Van Noy nursing a hamstring injury.

Van Noy’s status for the upcoming game against the Lions remains uncertain, with head coach John Harbaugh refraining from providing a specific timeline for his return. David Ojabo, who was a healthy scratch the first two weeks, could see action if Van Noy is unable to play. The addition of Hamm to the practice squad serves as a precautionary measure, ensuring the team has sufficient depth in the event of further injuries.

In other news, veteran safety and special teams player JT Gray has been placed on the practice squad injury list. Gray, a standout special teams contributor since 2021, has yet to see action with the Ravens after signing with the practice squad on September 3.

The Ravens also lost center Nick Samac from their practice squad, as he was signed by the Carolina Panthers to their 53-man roster on Tuesday. The Panthers’ move comes in response to the loss of center Austin Corbett and guard Robert Hunt to significant injuries on Sunday. As the Ravens prepare to face the Lions, these adjustments to their practice squad demonstrate the team’s proactive approach to addressing potential vulnerabilities and ensuring they have the necessary depth to compete at a high level.
