New Orleans Saints Face Historic Underdog Status: Longest Odds Since 1975

The New Orleans Saints are looking to bounce back from a brutal loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but it’s not going to be easy. They’re heading to Buffalo to face the Bills, and let’s just say the odds are not in their favor. The Bills are currently favored by a whopping 16.5 points, which is the largest point spread of the season so far and tied for the ninth-largest since 2020.

To put that in perspective, only one team that’s been an underdog by 17 points or more since 2020 has managed to pull off an outright win – the Jets, who beat the Rams in 2020 despite being 17-point underdogs. And out of the other seven teams that were underdogs by 16.5 points or more, six of them failed to even cover the spread. Not exactly a promising stat for Saints fans.

It’s worth noting that this is the biggest underdog spread the Saints have faced in a game since way back in 1975. They were 16.5-point underdogs against the Vikings in Week 9 of that season, and managed to cover the spread in a 20-7 loss. But the week before that, they were 18-point underdogs to the Raiders and got throttled 48-10. So, yeah, it’s been a while since the Saints have faced a spread this big.

I’m not sure what to expect from this game, but I do know one thing – it’s going to be a tough road ahead for the Saints. Can they somehow manage to pull off a massive upset, or will the Bills steamroll them like everyone expects? We’ll just have to wait and see.
