The Detroit Lions are off to a decent start, but their pass rush could use a serious boost. With only four sacks through two games, they’re lagging behind their NFC North rivals, the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. That’s why I think they should be all over a potential trade for Bradley Chubb.
Chubb, the former No. 5 overall pick, has been a beast when healthy. He’s got 42.5 career sacks and 15 forced fumbles, and he was an absolute monster in 2023 with the Miami Dolphins, racking up 11 sacks and a league-high six forced fumbles. Sure, he’s had some injury issues, including a torn ACL in 2019 and a knee injury in 2023, but he’s only 29 and is already showing he can still dominate on the field.
The Lions should be interested in Chubb, especially considering the Dolphins’ current situation. Miami is 0-3, and if they continue to struggle, they might decide to blow it up and start fresh. That could mean Chubb is on the trading block, and the Lions should pounce on the opportunity.
Of course, there are some risks involved. Chubb’s injury history is a concern, and he’s got a pretty hefty contract. But his 2025 cap hit is only $12.3 million, which is manageable for a team like the Lions.
So, what would it take to get Chubb to Detroit? Here’s a potential trade proposal: the Lions send a 2026 third-round pick, defensive tackle Roy Lopez, and a conditional 2027 fifth-round pick (that escalates to a fourth if Chubb records 8+ sacks or plays 60% of defensive snaps in 2025) to the Dolphins in exchange for Chubb.
This deal would give the Lions a true pass-rushing partner for Aidan Hutchinson, who’s already a monster on the field. It would also give the Dolphins some much-needed depth on the defensive line and some draft capital to build for the future.
Hutchinson can’t do it alone, and adding Chubb to the mix would give the Lions’ defense a serious boost. It’s a risk worth taking, especially considering the potential upside. If Brad Holmes wants to give Hutchinson a true running mate, this is the way to do it.
