What a game for Sam Darnold! The guy was on fire, folks. He went a perfect 16 for 16 in the first half, tossing four touchdowns and racking up 282 yards. That’s a perfect passer rating of 158.3, for those keeping track. And he didn’t slow down much in the second half, either. He started off with another completion, giving him 17 in a row and tying a franchise record held by the legendary Warren Moon. Okay, so he finally threw an incomplete pass on third-and-1, but who’s counting?
It’s worth noting that Darnold’s first completion of the game was also a big deal, as it marked the first time the Seahawks failed to convert on third down – they were a perfect 5 for 5 up to that point. And let’s give it up for the Seahawks’ punter, Dickson, who finally got to see some action after that.
Darnold’s first real mistake of the game came later, when he tried to throw across his body to Cody White and ended up getting picked off. But he bounced back in a big way, leading another touchdown drive to put his team up 38-7. I mean, at that point, it was pretty much game over, and the Commanders fans were heading for the exits. Darnold finished the day with some crazy stats: 21 for 24, 330 yards, four touchdowns, one interception, and a 141.0 passer rating. Oh, and he averaged 13.8 yards per attempt – that’s just ridiculous.
And then there’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who just keeps making history. The guy wasn’t on the receiving end of any of Darnold’s touchdown passes, but he still managed to haul in eight catches for 129 yards, with 119 of those coming in the first half. That’s his sixth 100-yard game of the season, which ties him with Steve Largent for the most in franchise history – and we’re only halfway through the season! He’s also got four straight 100-yard games, which is a franchise record. This kid’s on fire, folks.
