Ugh, what’s going on with the Ravens’ defense? They just got torn apart by the Lions’ offense on Monday Night Football, and it’s not like they didn’t see it coming. I mean, Detroit’s got a great offense, but Baltimore’s D is supposed to be one of the best in the league. Instead, they’re taking a long, hard look in the mirror after another rough performance.
Coach John Harbaugh, safety Kyle Hamilton, and cornerback Marlon Humphrey were all pretty blunt about how bad they played. And let’s be real, they’ve got every right to be frustrated. The Lions ran all over them, racking up 224 rushing yards – the third-most the Ravens have given up since Harbaugh took over in 2008. That’s just embarrassing.
David Montgomery was basically unstoppable, breaking off a 72-yard run and finishing with 151 yards and two touchdowns. And his backup, Jahmyr Gibbs, wasn’t too shabby either, scoring two TDs on the ground. It was like the Ravens’ defense was nonexistent at times. I mean, 20 missed tackles? That’s not just a bad game, that’s a fundamental issue.
Harbaugh’s right, though – this isn’t who the Ravens are supposed to be. They’re a team that prides itself on tough defense, and this performance was just unacceptable. As Harbaugh said, “It cannot be who we are. It’s not going to be acceptable, and it has to be better.” You can’t argue with that.
The Lions, on the other hand, executed their game plan to perfection. They ran the ball, kept Jared Goff clean, and converted on third (and fourth) down. They just played smarter, more disciplined football, and it paid off. As Humphrey put it, “I feel like they kind of did whatever they wanted to do all night.” Ouch, that’s gotta sting.
Humphrey also said, “We’re just not very good,” and right now, it’s hard to disagree. The Ravens need to figure out what’s going wrong and fix it fast, or they’re going to be in trouble this season.
