Getting Gashed on the Ground
The Tennessee Titans’ defense is struggling early in the season.
They’re giving up big plays like déjà vu.
Case in point: Jonathan Taylor’s massive run on third-and-four.
He burst through a huge hole, broke tackles, and outran L’Jarius Sneed to the end zone.
It seems like every time they face a solid offense, they get gashed.
Trouble Against the Pass
The passing game isn’t any better.
Daniel Jones hit Josh Downs deep on third-and-three, setting up more points for the Colts.
Right now, the Titans are giving up 5.3 yards per rush.
That ranks fifth-worst in the NFL.
They’re also surrendering 7.19 yards per pass, 13th in the league.
Not the numbers you want from your defense.
Players Acknowledge the Problem
L’Jarius Sneed said it best:
“We just gotta make the plays. Do what we gotta do to get the man down.”
Sounds simple, but it hasn’t been happening.
Darrell Baker Jr. added that big plays often result from small mistakes.
It’s not just one player—it’s multiple errors adding up.
Each player needs to own their responsibilities and hold teammates accountable.
Focus on Fundamentals
The Titans aren’t outcoached or outmanned.
They just need to execute basic defensive fundamentals.
When they do, they can limit the big plays that are killing them.
As Michael Jackson famously said:
“I’m starting with the man in the mirror. I am asking him to make a change.”
The Titans’ defense needs to take a hard look in the mirror and adjust.
