The list of the most disappointing teams of week 1 of the NFL includes dolphins, Texans, Bengals and Lions. And this pitiful display to Green Bay may have been the worst of any NFC team. It was a nightmare start after Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, with the skepticism of the pre-season of national experts about the lions who seem premonitory.
Of course, the winning eagles of the Super Bowl of last year lost against the Falcons during the week 2.. The champion chiefs in defense and possible and possible abandoned their first round of this team of Lions. But it seemed different. Detroit was demoralized in a way that they have not been since before their end of season race in 2022. It was a non-presentation equally with the debacle of the Ravens 38-6 in 2023-and worse than one or the other of the outings.

To put the loss in perspective, 3.8 yards per strozing game were the second lower in the Dan Campbell era (only worse: 3.74 in a defeat of 34-11 against Bengals in 2021). Their success rate of 22.7% was the second lower since 2021 (only worse: 13.3% during defeat in 2022 against Caroline).
He was unusually inept, but he should not define the season. A rebound in Ben Johnson’s return can quickly change the story. But first, let’s warm up week 1 in the report of inaugural actions
Stock up: Jack Campbell, LB
The year 3, Jack Campbell, looked like the best defender of Detroit Back-Seven. He managed the team with nine plated, constantly met Josh Jacobs to or near the melee line, and brought real pop against the race. Even more encouraging: Campbell’s progress on the cover. He forced incomplete step by step against the tight ends and slammed John Fitzpatrick on the lawn like a box drained with blue pest ribbon on a short gain.

The only blatant hole remains his blitz. Campbell was sent several times by the A-GAP but could not generate pressure, pursuing a career problem.
Stock at the bottom: interior offensive line
Christian Mahogany’s new trio, Graham Glasgow and Tate Ratledge was a disaster. Physically outperform, mentally out of synchronized and shredded by waterfalls. They looked like matadors escape the bulls.
Even Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker are not immune to this stock report because they also had trouble. Hank Fraley has a lot to clean here.
Stock up: Tyleik Williams, DT
Williams has not flashed as a rusher of passes, which expected in his early days – but he obstructed tracks, ate double teams and stood Aaron Banks and Sean Rhyan several times. This helped Jacobs only 30 yards in 11 three -quarter races. His strong presence released second -level defenders to attack the descent, which makes Green Bay Unidimensional for Stretching (something they have sailed very well).

Stock Down: Aidan Hutchinson, from
Just note: it was Hutchinson’s first match from a major leg injury. He will probably be stronger in October in September.
But it was not the performance of a man of $ 50 million. Hutchinson was locked up by Rasheed Walker and Zach Tom, has heard over the match, and even fought against the backups of Green Bay late. Detroit’s pass race was invisible, and that falls on their star. The team’s botter, the ball carrier and the star receiver should never have more plated than him.
Stock up: Derrick Barnes, LB
The role of Barnes at Sam Secondur has evolved under Kelvin Sheppard. Less time as a de facto line player, more time scratching and tackling. He made his presence felt, including a short -term platform on the Jacobs and a stop on a short pass to Tucker Kraft without gain. Like his second colleagues, however, Barnes did not generate juice as a blitzer.

Stock Down: Jarred Goff, QB
Yes, the line was bad. Yes, the game game did not help. But Goff did nothing to raise the offense. His interception of the red zone before half-time was brutal. His 7.3 yards by completion were the third lower in his lions career. And 27 of his attempts came less than five meters from the line – the fifth for his mandate in Detroit. At one point, he must be able to widen the offensive of this reckless abandonment and not be part of the problem.
Stock up: Isaac Teslaa, Wr
If you have knocked down the canals before the final whistle, you may have missed it. Yes, it was indeed a catch. A HELLUVA capture.

Detroit must roll with Teslaa Plus. Its physical prowess and its ceiling give the lions something different to the receiver, and with the spraying offense under John Morton, they cannot afford to keep it in the garage, even if it is done at the expense of the clichés of Kalif Raymond.
Stock Down: Kerby Joseph, S
The second highest NFL security was a ghost. No impact in the racing game, no cover games and burned deeply. On the passes of more than 15 air yards, Jordan Love went 5 out of 8 for 126 yards and two scores. Joseph must erase these throws, not invite them.
Stock up: Jeff Hafley and Demarcus Covington, Staff Packers
Credit where it is due. Green Bay’s defensive front was overwhelming. The rental of Demarcus Covington as a DL coach already looks like a coup. Detroit had 15 of his first fierce races behind the line – most of the Campbell era. The waterfalls constantly confused the Lions line, generating four bags and nine strokes.

Stock Down: Lions coordinators
I hate guess, but this team and the new coordinators seemed to have been able to use a pre-season general rehearsal. The joint practices are calculated and coordinated, and although they are live bullets for the 1S against the 1, they did not simulate a real gaming experience for the new coordinators.
John Morton’s offensive was static and disjointed. The pre-Snap movement did not have the usual teeth, failed to obtain the defenders of the packers on their heels. The racing game was less varied and predictable. The intermediate environment of the field – The Sweet Spot of Goff – was invisible. Worse, the unit looked confused: continuously execute the clock, sort assignments, bad communication and empty their own rhythm. Sometimes it looked more like the Anthony Lynn era than we got used to.
The defense of Kelvin Sheppard was maintained decently against the race, but failed to stop Green Bay early, did not generate any coherent passes, in particular from pressure packages, and produced little impact games despite intense investment in talents.

What about Dave FIPP’s special teams? Multiple penalties, zero spark.
Rapid blows
Store
Sam Laporta, te: His two catches for 48 yards highlighted the second half route. His blockage, however, had the courage of a sloppy Joe.
Carl Lawson, fa: With Za’darius Smith in Philly, Detroit may need to learn the error in their ways at the Taurus head and call the last free agent who remains capable of disturbing the quarters.
Stock
Jameson Williams, Wr: Four catches, 23 yards, 5.8 per reception. Not good enough for a guaranteed receiver of $ 67 million. Amon-Ra St. Brown is not too far behind him with incapacity to open up, being engulfed by the cover of the packers.

DJ Reed, CB: Targeted and beaten by Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks. Not what you want with your first free agent pick-up.
Marcus Davenport, of: Some play on the ground but barely noticeable as rusher despite a strong dependence and a supposed dynamo rush to the bull.
Brian branch, s: A TFL and a pick-seam recalled, but otherwise beaten on the cover and guilty of a bone penalty. Confidence is good – the superFinance is not.
Tony Romo, CBS: Broadcast Duwreck. Bad names, bad anecdotes and words salad. I felt like a pilling student guess the final exam.
Lions’ Mojo: It was not a team from Dan Campbell. No grain, no resilience, no infectious energy. Just tight and lifeless football. They hope to find it quickly with Ford Field Faithful waiting for them during week 2.
